Combining Projects

Post by kevinreddog »

Since I am having problems with VideoStudio 8 out of sync issues with larger projects, it would make sense to create smaller projects and combine them for output.

What is the best way to do that?

a) If I combine them in VideoStudio 8 when creating a DVD, there is a 1-2 second pause between projects (not acceptable) during playback.

b) Use a Mpeg joiner (which one?). usually these don't do a very good job.

c) Create DVD outputs for each project (VOB files) and combine them with some software as chapters??? Would this work? Would it be seemless? What software would work best for this??

Kevin,
The best way, by far, of combining projects is to make an mpeg2 video file of each project and then, with an EMPTY TIMELINE, select the video files in the Share/Create Disk screen, make menus and submenus for each video file and SET YOUR BURN PROPERTIES manually to match your video file properties with the obscure little unlabled gear shaped icon located second to the right on the lower left of the Create Disk window.

I tried your recommended approach, thank you. It works pretty well, I now have a 1/2 second freeze between the two clips. All properties are set the same (between the two clips and also to the output DVD). Any idea's on how to get rid of that 1/2 second freeze?

I'm going to try to put a transition between the two clips and see if that helps.

Kevin,
I separate my projects at natural break points in the subject matter. I usually add some descriptive words in the video and/or transitions that make the cut unnoticible. If you are capturing movies, you can do the same thing - say with a fade to black and back - its just a bit more difficult to get the timing right and not leave a stray frame in the wrong place.
