DWS 2.231 - Motion Menus No longer work.

Post by djconfirm »

Nature of the problem : Using Menu Wizard, Motion Menus no longer work
Properties of your source files from Pinnacle Moviebox USB
What devices are involved and their mode of connection? none
Project Settings huh??
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD) DVD
PAL or NTSC NTSC
Error Codes (if any) none

Long time DWS 2 user. Motion menus created by menu wizard have always worked in the past, but sometime recently they failed. Recent changes including installing XP SP2.
I have to re-create motion menus manually using videos/audio from libraries. Did some update break these? Pain in the butt. How can I get them to work again.

Thanks,
djd

SP2 does cause some conflicts with some programs and this is mentioned at the time of downloading SP2.
Try removing it, go back to SP1.

I have XP with Service pack 2 and do not suffer from this problem.
have you checked the option box on the menu tab to ensure that motion menu is selected?

Of course, there is no way that a layered product would cause me to go back from Win XP SP2... There are too many security and other advantages to using XP SP2. It would seem to me that any problems with a product and SP2 is the responsibility of that product to fix...

And to be clear... The problem is not with motion menus created by hand using manual menu crreation, but with menus created by the wizard.

For some reason, when the wizard creates a menu, it does not set the motion menu bit and transfer the audio and video, even tho those options are filled in when the menu is selected in the wizard.

Creating a motion menu by hand still works.

It is not possible to simply check the motion menu check box in the menu, since the audio and video were not transfered byt he wizard. The menu must be "rebuilt" by dragging the video and audio to the menu background and setting the proper audio loop time.

Pain in the butt...

I don't like the way you equate security issues with video ones. Ideally, a video installation should require no security protection (no internet, no firewall, no anti-virus, no anti-malware) because all these devices can reduce the performance, as can any other resident utility. In my case, my video computer cannot even connect to the Internet, so I use XP Pro with no SPs and everything works fine. If this is impossible (what a waste to use a powerful computer for Internet use!) then, at least have dual booting with a video boot disabling everything that is not essential to video.

And I concur that Nero and Roxio are both capable of upsetting many video apps.

To supplement what Devil has stated about a dedicated computer.

There are several suggestions, hints, tricks etc here:
Take particular note of the suggestion about creating a seperate user profile.

Dedicated computer....

Post by djconfirm »

I've been an eager and early adopter of video stuff for 10 years. I think it's time we passed beyond the dedicated computer mentatlity. While I have a bunch of toys, I certainly don't have the wherewithall to dedicate my most powerful computer just for video. I have 3D art, network, website development, 2D graphics and a pile of other things to do on that computer as well.

I realize that none of us are the ULEAD support folks. But if they happen to read these posts on their day off, it might be nice if they began to understand that they need to work to make their stuff robust in the face of all sorts of other software packages on the same system. Of course, I don't mean that all sorts other packages are running in the system at the same time that video work is being done. But I'm unlikely to want to login again just to do video...

I have a separate video hard drive, 1GB of memory and dual processor system. So my system is not light weight... I'm not expecting miracles, but I do expect that after 5 years in the market place together that ROXIO, ULEAD and NERO stuff should all work together... And they appear to do that. At least for ROXIO and ULEAD, on my system.

As I said originally, DWS motion menus worked fine until recently, and the only product recently updated was DWS.

Have a great day,
dj

Have you tried to uninstall and re-install Workshop 2.
As mentioned I have Service Pack 2 on my XP Pro System and have no problems.

Please avoid nasty sounding remarks like
I think it's time we passed beyond the dedicated computer mentatlity
Devil and myself are nothing to do with Ulead, In fact I work in Law Enforcement in the UK. We are only trying to help you with your problem.

Let me clarify my remark...

In no way did I intend any "nasty remark"... I am sorry that you took my comment in that way. I certainly appreciate your help and comments.
