Help adding chapters (simply can't understand it)

Post by lhgm »

I have a movie clip with 3 different scenes in it, i want to add all 3 scenes in a title, as 3 chapters, but i cannot... :(

i also have to set in and out points for each one of the scenes, and this doesnt seems to be possible, it treats the scenes as if they were one single scene...

i also cannot insert different movie clips as chapters in the same title... the ADD CHAPTER button is ALWAYS disabled.

Help, please...

BTW, is there a way to maintain one clip's audio track and inserting another clip movie track over it? (example: i have an interview with a person but in some time of the interview i want to put another video over the interview video AND maintain the interview's audio)

(excuse my poor english)

I cant find a way to add transitions between chapters or titles... i've just found transitions for still images... please tell me that i'm missing something here... or else this will be the *only* dvd authoring tool i know that doesnt have transitions for video clips.

Authoring vs. Editing

Post by GeorgeW »

Regarding the transitions, you might be confusing Editing vs. Authoring. Advanced Authoring will concentrate on the "DVD" side of things -- making menus, chapters, subtitles, amultiple soundtracks, etc...

The "Editing" should have already been done by your choice of video editor (cutting out scenes, adding titles, transitions, effects, etc...).

There are some areas that "overlap", but how extensive that overlap will depend on your expectations.

Ulead's other Authoring application does have more "editing" features -- like adding text titles and transitions between chapter clips -- DVD MovieFactory 3.0 Disc Creator.

Yes, i figured it out after a while... thats because i came from Pinnacle Studio, who does it all, capture video, edit video, edit DVD and burn it... but Studio is too buggy, hanging from time to time and having problem with many clips, then i searched for another solution, but DVD Workshop isn´t for me... i'll try to find another solution... or perhaps using 2 applications, since ive already bought DVD Workshop.

Did you figure this part out ??? First, you have to advance the video to the point where you want to add a chapter. Then click "Add Chapter"... it will add a chapter-point at the current frame. It took me awhile to figure that out!

There is some overlap between editing and authoring programs. Video Studio (editor) can do simple authoring. DVD Workshop (DVD Authoring) can "cut and splice".

And the bad new is... If you would have pruchased Video Studio (editing software) first, or at the same time, you could have purchased the "Special Upgrade" version of DVD workshop for $50 less.

BTW- I've had some strange problems authoring with MPEG files that were edited on Video Studio. If your original files are MPEG-2, you might want to try-out another editor.
