Configuration: W2K SP4 updated, Athlon 1800, 1024 RAM, 180 GB HD, ATI Radeon 9000, JVC camcorder, VS8 & VS9
Problem: When I click to begin editing a clip captured from camcorder, the program freezes, and the only way out is Ctrl-Alt-Del.
History: VS8 used to work fine. Since problem began, I have tried many things: uninstall VS 8 completely/reinstall; checked RAM, one stick suspect, so installed new one; upgraded from VS8 to VS9.
Also, have had blue screen stop error on boot up - PFN List Corrupt, but has always rebooted fine second time.
Solutions: Recently I thought I had problem solved when I discovered I had plenty of room on HD, but the C partition was completely full. I expanded that partition, no blue screens so far, but editing still freezes VS.
My next step is a clean install of Windows, but before I do, I wanted to see if anyone has any other ideas.
Thanks.

Where are your Video Studio working folders located -- on the C:\ drive? If so, it might be better if they were transferred to a drive with loads of space, since editing files -- particularly DV/AVI ones, which are huge -- takes up an awful lot of room.
And after your uninstalled and reinstalled VS 8, did you either do a repair of VS9 (if you have the full boxed version) or reinstall (if you don't). Uninstalling VS8 can take some of the files used by VS9. While reinstalling VS8 would have reinstalled those files, you may need a reinstall of VS9 as well for it to be able to 'see' those reinstalled files again...

I have the VS program and other folders on the C:\ drive which is in one partition, and the capture files in another partition on the same HD. Each partition currently has 20 GB free. I am just testing right now with 5 minute capture files so they are not very big at all.
As for uninstall/reinstall: the last time, I completely uninstalled VS8, deleting all files and directories that came up in a search for "ulead" in W2K. I cleaned up the residue with Registry First Aid, and then installed VS9 (download version).
Does that clarification lead anywhere?

A question: Can you run the video clip and cut it with the lower right "beginning/end" buttons?
I face the problem that I just cannot cut the clips dragging the mouse on the bar below the displayed clip - also can only kick the task and start again.
It worked fine before and I do not know what changed....
Could it be a misplaced dll?
I also tried to re-install it - did not work any better.
