need help opening files

I am using Ulead SE 1.2(came with hardware). This is the process I am going through to try to open videos in Ulead. I capture a video from a hardware encoder(mpeg2 format) and save it in a folder in my documents, then I try to open it in Ulead. Ulead will not open it because it is not a dws. file. I have tried other programs and run into the same problem. That being that the file is not compatible with the program I am using. I am new to video editing as it is probably quite obivious. Can someone please help me to guide me through this process?

Hi,

Start a new project, then add the mpeg file to the project. When you go to OPEN a file, it is trying to open a saved project (not the mpeg file).

thanks George, I new it had to be something simple. There is just one more step beyond that, when I go to new project it asks me for a name, and folder location, I had to type in a name(any name), then the next window allowed me to browse folders. Thanks again!
