Is it impossible to create a menu on a DVD-RAM ?

Post by ucharly »

Somewhere on a website I read that it is possible with Ulead MovieFactory to create menus even on a DVD-RAM. Now I tried it - I am using the German version "Filmbrennerei, version 4, deluxe". But when I finally wanted to burn the files together with the menu I built, I got the message "DVD-RAM not supported. Please try a different medium". Did I neglect something or is it strictly impossible to create a DVD-RAM with menu structure?
Thanks for your infos!

As long as you completely erase the disk I would think it should work.

I'll let you know.
Ill try it with the english ntsc version. MF4 disc creator.
Will post back soon.

How it works

It works, if you do not burn the DVD directly, but instead of it create ISO-, BUP and VOB-files and the VIDEO_TS-files. Save them. Then you can burn it (with Nero or DVDcopy). Now you can really play this DVD-RAM and as well use the menu - but only on your PC.

On a DVD-Recorder (I use the Panasonic DMR-EH52EG) there is an error message: Disc is wrong formatted.

As I heard, no DVD-Recorder currently is able to read this format, but some DVD-Players (Panasonic) can do.

Same here with the same results so I put the ram-disk into a
panasonic 5 disc dvd player unit and it worked.
The panasonic recorder will not play it and forces to format the disk
if you want to use it.
