VS9 - Soundediting

Post by Ompa »

Sometimes when I add an background track to my project the sound from the movieclip isn´t heard. I have lowered the sound of the music to 50 and the movie still has it´s sound set to 100. I´ve tired to use both mp3´s and pure wav formats.
I can´t fins any logic behind this, because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn´t. The only possible logic is that it works at the beginning of my project and fails a bit into it.

Any tips?

Ompa,
Sorry if my reply appears twice, I thought I submitted an answer about a hour ago but seems to have disappeared!!
What I do is export the 'basic' sound track as a soundfile (WAV) and then open it with Audacity which is an excellent FREE sound editor
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Using audacity you can mix in new sounds, adjust volume levels, cut bits out, add all sorts of special effects, echo's, normalise, get rid of hiss, pops etc. Then save the new sound file.
Re-open VS9 and replace your sound with the new one.

Should you ever upgrade to Media Studio 8 it includes a very similar looking sound editor.

Thank you very much for that reply.
I´m off testing Audacity now. I´ll return with a comment on how it went.

How exactly do I extract the audio from an DV-AVI clip. I´ve tried to create an audio file from share/create in VS9 and the file ends up being empty.
Well not empty. The file is 12mb big, but no audio in it.

Ompa,

What format did you export your audio to? There are several options.
Did you try playing the audio file in another program to see if it was there?
Was the audio track in the DV-AVI muted when exported?
Did you create an audio file from the entire project or just preview length?

I just ran a quick test on a DV-AVI file, going to Share>Create Sound File. It exported fine. I also ran one where the audio in the DV-AVI was muted, and it created a sound file, however no sound could be heard....

The sound wasn´t muted, I just checked that.
Here´s a funny thing though. If I play the clip (in VS9) by choosing "clip" left to the play button in preview screen, I can here the sound.
But if I select "project" the sound is gone.

I have tried to export it to wav and mpa, and tried to listen to it in several other programs, including Audacity thar sjj1805 sugested.

Can it be some kind of incompability between programs when capture the movie.
Because all my clips has been captured using Pinnacle studio 9.

Ompa,

I don't know, it may be. I've never used that program. However for a test if you can capture using VS9, or some other means like WinDV then capture a small DV-AVI and bring it into VS9. Then try to export the sound file and see if you still have the same problem.

If not then I'd say yes UVS9 does not like PS9.

Evreka!!

All is working for me now. Problems sorted out, and VS9 is not to blame (that I already knew ;) ).
It comes down to what I wondered in my post. The captrued movie from Pinnacle studio9 was to blame. I recaptured the scene that was messing with me, and captured it with VS9.
Thanks again for your responses!
