What is "image matte" and "video matte"

Matt,
Forget the greenscreen stuff, you do not need it in this scenario. If you have an image with transparency like all the ones I have named, just overlay it over your video with alpha channel for overlay type. Then use moving path to move object over desired part of clip. Using VP module paint over you hands. I explained the steps thoroughly before for Steve using MSP7 in this thread. If it was a 3D model you would do the same but use the keyframes and X-Y-Z coordinates for better tracking and save as 24 Bit AVI. Or you could save it as a 32 Bit RGB AVI that contains alpha channel and then go directly to the VP step. Its not that complicated. If I have the time I will create a quick sample for your viewing.

Matt,
Here's a quick sample. I used a 3D model and keyframed its movement and saved as sphere 24 bit AVI. In MSP's VP module I painted over column where the sphere needed to be behind it and saved as .uvp file. Then in editor used saved sphere AVI on V1 track. V2 track was my still image file. For V2 Overlay Options used Type Alpha Channel and Mask Video Matte with my saved .uvp file. That's it. POOF!

Ok! I think I got what you did! I got a few questions though.
1. Do I have to use Videopaint? Cause I do not have it ATM. I bought MSP 8. Is there anything else I can use besides videopaint. Can't I just even use a simple program like paint to paint black over the area and do it that way?
2. What if I wanted to put say for instance, that same ball, but with me in the shot using video... What ways without VP would I be able to paint that black mask on? I was thinking, what if I used a solid color overlay and used PIP to position it over the mask area using MSP 8? Then I would create a video file, then use that file to finish it up with another project using Alpha channel, etc. Let me know if that might work for video. Thanks so much!!
