video 9 - Video recorded to Dual Layer DVD ends prematuerly

Post by jassbass@yahoo.com »

I have a video project that is a little larger than a 4.7 DVD. I purchased some Dual layer DVD's and selected the option to burn to the larger DVD's. when I view the DVD on my DVD player the Video ends at 1:14.30 and then goes back to the Menu. I've burned this same DVD project using the Fit & Burn option and it plays all the way through. Is there a bug?

Thanks

I've burned a number of dual-layer disks with UVS 9 and have not had a single failure. There are several factors that could be causing problems.

The single most important consideration is the media. I would stick to DVD+DL media and use a DVD burner that has bitsetting/book type support to change the disk type to DVD-ROM -- this will get you the highest compatibility possible.

If you use DVD-DL media, there is no bitsetting/book type support, and the disk type will indicate that it is a DVD-R disk. Older standalone players will most likely not play these disks in their entirety (or at all) because they do not expect a second layer on a DVD-R disk. A DVD+DL disk using bitsetting to indicate a DVD-ROM disk will play fine because it is common for pressed DVD-ROM disks to have two layers.

Next, I would check for updated firmware for the burner. All drive manufacturers release updated firmware to fix bugs and improve the performance of their drives. Check the firmware database on www.rpc1.org to see if a newer version is available, and what the changes are.

Last but not least, avoid putting stick-on labels on your disks. The vibrations that labels induce can keep any disk (dual-layer or not) from playing.
