Video Studio 9 DVD Creating - how do I get no reencoding?

Post by mji »

Just installed a bought version, having problems with DVD Movie Factory - will not create ISO

I was playing with the DVD creation so I pulled in a DVD compliant MPEG2 and it wants to reencode it.

How do I turn reencoding off. I am happy with the results I get from TMPGENXP - I prefer to to the freebee encoders

I have found the

"Do not convert compliant MPEG files"

Will the 2 pass VBR footage be altered if I allow ULEAD to redo the sound, as I would prefer DD2.0 over MPEG2 sound?

mji,

In my short time here, I haven't heard of any of the "sages" using TMPGENXP to encode their MPEG files. I think you should just try encoding a short video and burning it onto a DVD-RW/+RW, and see if it does have to reencode because you want to use DD.

If your source mpeg2 video has mpeg audio, check the box that says "treat mpeg audio as non dvd compliant", and make sure your project template is using DD audio. Make sure to keep "Do not convert..." checked as well. This will use your video stream, and only re-encode the audio...

Thanks!

However I have just purchased the AC3 plugin - (£16 approx) for TMPGENC XP

So that will be tried out very soon!

OK I still do my capturing in DVD Moviefactory - then edit the chopped up bits in VS9 as I find it easier!

mji,

I don't know how, but there must be a way to "register" the MPEG encoder with VS9 so that you can use it from within VS9. Perhaps someone else here on the forum knows how. If not, try Ulead's Technical Support, maybe they can help.

Well I am creating a disc and it is taking ages messing about with my MPEGs

Converting Video Title 1 - aghhhhhh after 5 minutes 2 % and it is creating an MPEG

These are already MPEGs which are DVD compliant!

I can't create a disc until I get this sorted :x :x

mji,

When creating a DVD make sure that your project settings match your MPEG values. Take a look at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=27 and read the section on Burn DVD Phase.

Also, I know you like using the TMPGENC MPEG encoder, but have you done a side-by-side comparison of the TMPGENC and the Ulead MPEG encoders? If so, if would be great if you posted your thoughts and critical analysis. Or, are you just using it because it is what you have always used? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one is better than the other, however, if you've tested them both and analyzed the results, we all could learn something from you.

Mainly with TMPGENC it is the flexibility of the product, also it does do a good job, noticably better than the encoder which came with DVD Movie Factory

However I have compared both files, the original and the reencoded one, the reencode is bigger, but is the same frame structure and personal information.

Using windows media player - no obvious differences - the TV test comes later.

I have seen head to heads which put TMPGENC ahead of Main Concept.

However when doing old tapes to DVD I push the encoder very hard to get minimum file size for best quality

mji,

I'm running out of ideas. BTW, what is PTS? That's the only difference I see.

I confess I am now thoroughly confused! Are these files, whose properties you have just set out, from TMPGENC or Movie Factory or from VS9? And what version of MF are you using -- one which allows use of Dolby dual channel stereo? I ask because it is not clear to me what your work flow in all this has been. Did you, for instance, have a file (from what source?) which had Dolby audio on it, and then put it into a version of MF which could not handle Dolby and thus could not produce your ISO? Or did you ''pull in'' an mpeg-2 with LPCM or mpeg layer 2 audio, and then set it to produce a DVD with, say, Dolby audio (or vice versa)?? In either case, VS9 would seek to re-encode it, though would in fact only be re-encoding the audio part.

I too must confess that I'm not clearly seeing your workflow anymore. Perhaps we're missing something in one of your steps.

I had constructed an AVI from captured DV then I encoded the top one - (no idea what PTS is) with TMPGENC at 8900 CBR with AC3 2 channel.

This MPEG is perfect.

I then created the ISO, which reencoded the MPEG, also deleting it as it finished so I could not check if it was jerky.

The burnt DVD was jerky, original AVI and MPEG were fine, I do all things single stage - no burning while encoding.

Edit->Encode->MEnus->(unwanted encode)->ISO
