Smooth Titling in Media Studio Pro 6.5

Post by Tatterdemalion »

I have recently been introduced to Ulead software via the purchase of Reallusion's "Crazy Talk 4". Their "Studio Edition" came bundled with a version of Media Studio 6.5 which I had intended to use to quickly add sub-titles to my films.

The video editing component is : "6.51 VE" ; it is obviously a cut-down version of the software that I had read reviews of online as it doesn't include the raved-about rotoscoping software or any attractive titling options.

The text that you CAN add is gloriously easy to implement - you can see and hear exactly where you are and get on with the job pleasingly speedily - which is wonderful - BUT you are very limited with positioning (only allowed to use the lower half of the screen) - and FAR worse - all the letters look DISTRACTINGLY jaggy and pixellated to the point where
more attention is drawn to the messiness of the words' presentation than to the meanings they are meant to convey.

I tried adding some blue-screened j-pegs but they didn't look much better.

Are there any sensible Ulead upgrade paths that can help me here ? Ideally, I'd like a titling solution that keeps you as comfortably orientated as the provided titler but that also permits you free positioning of easy-on-the-eye, smooth-edged text.

titling in MediaStudio Pro

Even in MediaStudio 7, the fonts are not that great.

For best results I use an external program like photoshop or Even windows paint! and create an image for my titles. Then I use
2d advanced moving paths to scroll the title of put it in the lower 3rds etc.

Hope this helps...

Hi Mehtan

I just had a quick look at the sample from your "Star Wars" scrolling text tutorial and can see that the font limitations extend to Media Studio 7.

Do you get anything better with Video Studio 9 or Media Studio 8 ?

I'd like to have access to the sort of slick text styles that I have seen available as standard with other packages. The WORDS are a key part of the presentations I want to make - I don't want my sub-titles to have to look sub-standard.

I'm wondering if the CGI Infinity program might help me. Perhaps I could install it as a plug-in to accompany the version of Video Editor that I have.

Can anyone tell me what it does ? The marketing page at Ulead doesn't indicate that you can create pretty metallic text and so I'm left with the impression that it may just be a tool for creating motion paths for text or making the sort of effects that you can create with SWiSH Max.

MSP8 has a new titler which gives excellent results with anti-aliasing to reduce jaggies.

However, the best tool for sub-titles (assuming your output is to a DVD) is DVD WS2 (even the Express version allows 2 st texts, with choice).
