Hi T_Mac, welcome to the boards, :)

I'm not familiar with VS6, however with the information you've provided I don't know why.

I did notice that you are running WinXP. However fill in as much if not all the information requested about your Compter System. This is need to help troubleshoot problems. That way you don't have to retype it over and over again.

Also more information is needed like, how you captured, what are your capture properties, your project properties, the workflow you used to create a video.

Please read the following posts:

Nature of the problem:
When I capture VHS PAL video 3 hrs in length Once caputre is complete the software splits into 2 files 1is 4.1 gb the next on is 1.2gb.
I have tested twice and it is the same spot each time.
I supect that there is a setting that stops files being any bigger than standard DVD-R format.
But I can not find the setting
Software version 6.0

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?) VHS video player PAL format

What devices are involved and their mode of connection? capturing ising BELKIN USB 2.0 DVD creator

Project Settings
PAL (25 fps)
Field order A
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL)

Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Joint stereo

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD) file to disc.

"System information (please fill this up in your User Profile).

By this you have to click "Profile" near the very top of this screen just below the title "User to User Web Board"

The problem may be due to the fact you are using an old version of Video Studio. We are currently on version 9, you have stated you are using version 6.

I still have a copy of video Studio 8 on my machine that I look at every now and again when I come across a puzzler like yours, but I doubt if there are many users on the forum who still have version 6 and so I could not tell you what it is capable of.

Why not go to the Ulead website and download a 30 day trial of version 9 and see if it works for you.
You may be suprised at how much has changed!!

So far it looks like an issue with either:
  1. VS6 has some built in limitation ( I don't know, never used it )
  2. Your capture Device, Belkin has the 4gig limitation
  3. Your capturing to or the working folder is on a FAT 32 partition.
With FAT32 partitions, file sizes are limited to 4gig. If they are larger they are split. NTFS partitions do not have that limitation.

Dowloaded vs9.
Captured 3 hrs no problem.
I guess that vs6 was not set-up for dual layer disks.
It would have been nice to captue it all to 1 file and just cut it down 2. 4gb.
I do have another question guys about vs9
In vs6 you can view frame by frame in the timeline when editing how do you get vs9 to do this or is not alowed in the trial version.
You can only see 1 frame and then blank for the rest of the file.
Thanks in advance

Hi T_MAC,

it may well be that you could change the capture properties. You gave your project settings as:
Project Settings
PAL (25 fps)
Field order A
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
(DVD-PAL)
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Joint stereo
but VHS video only has about half of that resolution, so you could reduce the frame size without any significant quality loss, with a consequent large filesize reduction. Use the "search" function on the forum to check out many other posts about capturing VHS footage.

For analogue footage, incidentally, you normally use Field Order B, which in VS9 would be called "Upper Field First".

I'm glad to hear you took Vidoman's advice and downloaded the VS9 trial - I think you'll soon find that VS9 is a far more powerful video editor than version 6, with really useful things like the chroma key overlay feature and much improved slideshow capabilities.
