Green Strip on the bottom of the video.

My Config

AMD Athlon 64 - 3200+

Asus A8N SLI Delux - Motherboard

512 x 2 - 400 Mhz Hynix DDR RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache

Seagate Barracuda HDD SATA 7200 RPM - 160 GBs.

Windows XP Professional - Service Pack 2 (1033)

With Autopatcher Version 5.1 (5.1.33) - Updates

I tried to record video to my computer hard drive from a Panasonic 3CCD miniDV camera and Sony DV D8 camera (DCR-TRV460E PAL) using Firewire cable (IEEE 1394) with Windows Movie Maker Version 2.1.2046.0 and Ulead VideoStudio 9.0.100.

Although I can see the video and capture it, the bottom part of the video flickers with a green strip. and the aspect ratio is strangely altered. It kind of has been zoomed to the center of the video.

I tried to set the settings correctly and made sure the aspect ratio is PAL VCD and also aspect ratio of 4:3 and tried to capture with different capture plugins. I also reinstalled Ulead video studio just to be sure its not a software problem. But the problem persists... What shall I do?

Help Plz....

Why VCD and not DVD?
Take a look at the following where our members have put together suggestions for capturing/editing/producing a video with Video Studio.
If this does not help please detail all of your capture settings and the procedure you have employed.

I think the codecs are corrupted or something like that.

Thanks for the reply Steve. But i just discovered that the problem not only exists in videostudio but in many other software in my PC also.

Strange things i have observed...

When i play a video in Windows Media Player 10 and Real Player 10.5 and compare the playback in them ( i compared the first frame in both for reference) I find that in windows media player the video has been slightly zoomed to the centre (although I hace enabled 'Original Size'). But there is no other problem such as the strange green strip.

Do you think the codecs are to be blamed? Is there any way to repair the codecs??

And by the way, as Mr.Steve asked me why VCD and not DVD.....

DVDs and DVD players are costly in India and an average person prefers VCD players. So with a VCD as media, there is more 'reach'.

Thanks for your concerns

Are you doing any analog-to-dv conversion using your camcorders? If so, that little "garbled" strip is very common, and would not normally show when playing back on a tv screen -- because it falls in the "overscan" area.

You will see it on your computer though...
