Can anyone give me detailed directions on how to accomplish the hp commercial with the picture frames. I have been a user of VideoStudio for a couple years now and have just upgraded to MSP8, but have not created anything in it yet, so please keep that in mind. I have seen various tutorials on this special effect in Vegas and some other video editing software and am sure it can be done in MSP8, but I don't know the button names well enough to translate what they are doing in the other programs to correspond to MSP8.
Can anyone give me directions?

Susan,
This was an old topic at the MUG forum. It was agreed that one using Ulead products could come close to achieving the effect but not as great as HP's results. In editor, moving path can be used for moving your desired image or empty frame with transparency(alpha channel)and then replacing it with its content being inside the frame from your desired screen grab. Another way of doing this is to do it all in CG. This allows one full control of being able to texture the object, make bends-ripples where the fingers are holding the photo and add reflective lighting for realism.
Neil,
One should not really be promoting all the tutorials as your own when our good friend Nick Jushchyshyn has had these Special FX tutorials on his site for quite sometime. You basically applied his tutorials to your work and are now marketing a CD and collecting $$ on his work.
Notice in the upper-right hand corner of his site: copyright 2004, your site hasn't been around that long.

Just looked at your link. What immediately sprung to mind is that they are for MSP7 which has a totally different interface to MSP8.
MSP8 now uses the single video track concept rather than the old
VA VB etc which quite frankly I found mind blowing.
Will you be bringing out an updated version?

MSP7 contains tracks named VA VB etc. Transitions are placed on an intermediary track between VA VB etc. I believe there are differences in the ability to place transitions and effects on the other tracks.
MSP8 has tracks named Video1, Video2, Video3 etc.
Transitions are created be overlapping clips on the same Video track.
All tracks can have their own transitions and effects. Then there is the multi timeline function, smart compositor just to name a few differences.
I for one would NOT be interested in purchasing a tutorial for an older version which (to me at least) has vast differences from the current version.
I may however be interested in purchasing a tutorial for the current version and I am sure many others here would feel the same.
I am sure mehtan_98 has spent a lot of time and effort creating these tutorials which are probably very good. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if mehtan_98 wants to continue selling this product it needs to be brought up to date.
See here for a comparison of the two versions:
