Hi Everyone
Long time no speak.
I have been using my Canon DV for some time in the pass thru mode to convert old VHS tapes to DVD.
We have recently acquired a fantastic 15 min video from our school which shows our 3 year old son in various simulated shots racing police cars, fire engines etc.
I wish to convert to DVD to share with others but I am worried cos the VHS has a very bold warning which goes beyond the normal copyright warning etc etc. Seems to indicate that any attempt to copy will render the tape useless (uses Copyguard TM system apparently)
I would like to risk the copy procedure but am minded that the companies that produce videos of kids have to be careful due to the activities of pervs and paedophiles etc.
What do you think?
Many thanks

Don't worry... The VCR doesn't "know" what you're doing with the analog signal coming out of it. I suppose they are saying that the copy will be useless. They are probably trying to say it in a confusing way to scare you... Or, maybe they are just lying.
Copygaurd is Macrovision protection, which all commercial VHS tapes have.
Here in the U.S., it is apparently OK to bypass analog copy protection (to make personal copies), but illegal to bypass CSS digital copy protection.
I have The Clarifier Macrovision Remover. But, my Hauppauge capture card seems to ignore Macrovision so I haven't really needed it. Hauppauge doesn't advertise this, so I don't know thier current cards are this way.
BTW - The Macrovision signal is always present when you play a protected tape. TVs simply ignore the signal, but all VCR manufacturers have agreed to install a circuit that detects the Macrovision signal and screws-up the picture.
