I am flying the FS2004 and wish to record my flights to a file. How can I use video studio 8 se or dvd movie factory for this task?

You will need one of the programs available on the net to save flight simulator data while using it.
Videostudio or any other editor can't do that.

FS is a heavy program and leaves little horsepower for other programs to run in parallel. Only a dedicated ultralight program will succed in following the frame rate. A screen recorder program would probably not even do it. You would end up with 3-10 frames per second. Hardly enjoyable..

You could record your flights if you have a video card that will output NTSC/PAL video, Like a ATI All In Wonder Video card. Just hook up your output S-video/composite to another computer with S-video/composite input. Or hook up to a VCR and record and capture later.

Try a program called FRAPS, which a recent gamer used to record his gameplay. You'll need plenty of disk space, though!

I use the video output from my ATI Radeon 9800XT dual head directly into
my Canon ZR70MC and record them to DV. Then using VS9 recapture the
video to AVI where it can be saved into just about any format.

Been making simulation videos with Ulead since VS5. :D
