No audio - just video

Post by gisabun »

Hi,

With DMF4 [4.04], I can capture audio and video with the composite connection of my ATI All-In-Wonder x600. But if I use the TV tuner I only get video even though everything says the audio is fine [decent volume, not muted]. I fiddled around with the audio settings [choosing ATI Rage Theater Audio (or whatever) did nothing, nether did any settings from my C-Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 card].

Now if I use the TV software that's part of the ATI setup, I have no problems.

Ideas?

I think the Audigy cards are the most confusing to setup.

Whatever port you assigned or plugged the connector to for the audio out
from the ATI card (should be a small mini-stereo connector) into the sound card is the selection you want to use
in MF.
You must assign that connection in the Audigy Mixer.
That should be the last slider on the right of the audigy mixer.
Click on the top icon on that slider and assign the correct port. That will set the audigy hardware port to the port you plugged the cable in.
Then in MF assign the same port (usually Line-In). I have mine set
for Auxillary via the internal connectors from the ATI card and the soundcard.

You may also have to check the box that says "Monitor while Recording".
That sound channeling may cause feedback & sound delays of a second or two.
With MF open and in the recording screen have the Audigy Mixer also
active on the desktop screen. You may have to find the correct combination to get it correct.
The confusing part is what you hear in MF is the "Monitoring" or real
input of the sound. It's not the audio from the selected recording port.
The audio from the selected recording port is what will be recorded.
That's what the "Monitor while recording" button is for.
It's been my experience with MF you don't need the "Monitor while recording" on the Audigy Mixer checked On.

I would learn how to make a dvd compliant Mpeg2 file and the spec's.
Look at the templates in MF and read about the mpeg2 compliant
specs.

If you record using the ATI recorder (better). And record mpeg2 dvd compliant files then MF will not convert the files and you can create
a dvd in a matter of 15 minutes versus hours of re-encoding the video.
This is provided you don't edit/cut/trim the video in MF.

Hope this helps,

Actually I have no problems with the Audigy. It's the same as the Live 5.1 which is what i had before.

The problem I think is with MF. Why does ATI's MMC have no problems with capturing/watching either from an external source or the TV tuner but MF does [with the audio from the TV tuner]?

I didn't add in the "leg" that includes the audio cable but I'm wondering if it's really necessary - except to use with MF.

What I can't figure out is why the leg I have set up is audo and video coming into the card but doesn't have the Line-In cable to the audio card attached.

Maybe I'll leave it as is and stick with the MMC.

Thanks

Most likely if you take that audio cable and plug it into the soundcard "Line-In"
then MF will record the audio.

I prefer to record using the MMC center. It's easier for me.
