SCD & 3D Moving Path?

Post by fandj »

It seems that Smart Compositor Designer does not allow the use of 3D Moving Path! True? Any way to overcome it? Thanks.

Overcome it? No, it's a built-in limitation.

Work around it? You betcha :)

Render out your 3D path on a colored, black or white background then load it in as an overlay then use either a color or luma key to erase the background. I'd advise using a 1-2 pixel border to help prevent parts of it keying if they're too close to the background color.

If it's a one-off (i.e., you won't need to replace the image/clip in the path you are moving), I think you can simply Create the MPed clip to render a new file that you can then introduce into your SCD project. The limitation is that if you wish to change the image/clip, you would have to repeat the process each time. However, it would be hunky-dory if, for example, it is your logo that comes twirling in (constant for all projects).

Also;

nothing stops you from using an animation produced in Cool3D Production Studio and exported in a compressed mode compatable with the alpha channel for use as an overlay. Its "Animated GIF" export option comes to mind. C3D PS can also export animated BMP or JPEG Flash files, and the SCD tool will acccept all of the above.

C3D PS offers a LOT more animation capabilities than just using a 3D moving path, not the least of which are ways to transform an image far beyond what can be done in MSPro, but as with most 3D programs the cost is rendering time.

These kinds of programs, whoever makes them, render much slower than say MSPro or VideoStudio so there is a cost to having increased creative options.

Thanks to all.
I simply hate to have obstacles to creativity. With your tips I have not only resolved my problem but also have found out new opportunities to stimulate imagination. Thanks again.
