No audio when capturing from VHS (VS 7)
I am trying to capture video from VHS to my computer using Ulead Video Grabber. RCA cables coming from Panasonic VCR (video and 2 audio), connecting to Video Grabber, which connects to my computer by USB and my microphone jack. I am able to get the video with no problem, but I cannot get any sound. If I turn the sound on my computer all the way up when I playback something I grabbed, I hear fuzz, not nothing. I have tried the output format as AVI (which came up as the default before I set anything up) and MPEG because I saw that it was good for DVDs which is what I intend to make from the video. I am set up as NTSC. Please let me know if you need more information.

Is this http://www.smarthome.com/7601A.html the Video Grabber you are using?
If so I downloaded the PDF Manual for it, and I can't find where it says to plug into the Mic jack.
Line input and Mic input are handled differently on recording devices. If you're recording audio from another device, VCR, tape deck, stereo, the output from those are "Line Level". I'm currently not up to speed on what the differences are, but it just doesn't work to plug a Line Level audio into a mic jack.
Give it try plugging into the Line Level, it may work..Which by the way should be the other input jack on your sound card for your pc. There generally are two, Microphone and Line-In. If the Line-In is not marked, the Mic should be. Also don't plug into the Headphone jack, that's output..

Hi
After double clicking the speaker icon the window defaults to the Volume/Playback Controls.
Selecting options or properties usually gives you a choice of ‘Playback and Recording’
Select Recording to open the ‘Recording Control’----Only one option can be selected at a time, normally you would select ‘line-in’

Ron, this is the one that I am using:
http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... pfp=BROWSE
I talked to someone about this today, they said that it probably isn't working because the cable is STEREO and my microphone is MONO. They said that it might not be making a connection. Could this be the problem I'm having? If so, what else can I do to make these copies from VHS to DVD?

I wonder if you're running into the same type of thing as this guy? http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=10117

Amanda,
According to the info on the website, it has an available Line-In or mike port.
If your trying to capture audio from your VCR, the Line-In port should be used, not the Mic.
It is somewhat correct that pluging a stereo jack into a mono port could cause problems. However more important is that your pluging a line level output into a mic level input. A line-level signal is pre-amplified, whereas the mic level is not.
Here's some info about it. http://www.transom.org/tools/basics/200 ... asics.html
Scroll down to Line/Mic..
