Hi,
Forgot to ask you what is the make of the dvd recorder. That's important because some dvd recorders use a framesize of 704 ntsc/pal and you need to create a new template for the framesize IF the video needs to be re-rendered.
Right-Click on the video and select "Properties" to view the properties of the video or highlight the video/icon on the timeline and click on the question mark icon (on the left).
>>I imported to the d-drive 6 programmes that were recorded on a dvd-r disc, one after the other and then saved it.
You saved the "Project" not the videos. The videos are located in a folder called "Capture" directly under your assigned "Working Folder"
There are 6 videos (each one being an mpeg2 file) because everytime you start and stop a recording on the dvd recorder it creates a mpeg file. Most dvd recorders cannot JOIN the mpeg2 files. I do own a recorder that does just that. Combines mpeg files and also can re-render them to different bit-rates ($$$).
Also, in the importing module the top selection can also be the complete movie and the dropdowns below that are chapters.(Preview them to find out).
>>I went as far as 'Burning Target Disc' in the burning process but at 63% it came to a halt.
>>I would like to clear some points;
>>Re your advice of Feb.01 @ 7.40 in para 4
>>What is time line, re-rendering
>>Could not see icons to delete
I'm calling the "Timeline" the same screen that is used for importing dvd's or any video(s). The first screen after selecting DVD/DVD+VR from the MF4 launcher screen.
>>Re para 6 . What are 'chapters'. In my 1of 6 programmes lasting >>60mts. the screen showed that it had 10 chapters. From where did >>they come from? Are these chapters assigned automatically.
>>Any help please maddrummer 3301? Thanks.
Opps, sorry, Time for dinner, can't save all this typing so going to hit the Submit Button.

Thanks middrummer 3301.
Why wouldn't anyone in their right mind call you a genius
I wish I could acquire all the knowledge you have.
Can you recommend any book that explains these terminologies to a dim novice?
Great news is that I was successful in creating an 'image file'. Does one call this process 'burning' , as the book seems to describe?
Does creating/burning image files take up additional space of the d-drive as it seems, viewing the properties of the drive. Or is it my imagination?
Could I now select one or two of the videos and burn them on a DVD-RAM disc? If so
Can I import more videos later and burn them on the same dvd-ram disc?
Thanks again

Hi,
That panasonic recorder is a nice recorder. Can you post back the Make and Model of your dvd writer in the computer?
When importing files from a Panasonic dvd recorder MovieFactory doesn't have a template for their FrameSize. It's very important to create a custom template for working with those files.
Panasonic FrameSize recording at HQ or SD is 704x480 NTSC or 704x576 PAL. If recorded other than HQ or SD (LP/EP etc) the framesizes are smaller.
To get the properites of the video while on the TimeLine Display "Right-Click" on the Thumbnail and select "Properties". Write them down so you will always know what they are.
If you created an image file on the harddisk then from the MF launcher screen click on "Copy or Fit Disc" on the right you will see "Burn image file". Select that navigate to the image file and burn it.
DVD-RAM supports only data and UDF writing for video. I've never been able to write a dvd ram disk the same as DVD-R or DVD+R DVD-RW directly.
I think you can burn the image file you made to dvd-ram.
Well, you can probably. The panasonic recorder will want to re-format it again and will display wrong format, but any dvd player that plays dvd-ram will play it. If you want to burn to a re-writable disk then burn to DVD-RW.
Actually you want to reverse your procedure. Record on dvd-ram in the dvd recorder. Import the contents into the computer. Then create chapters, menus & burn a dvd-r disk that will play on any dvd player.
When I record on dvd-ram such as a VHS tape transfer I trim the beginning and ends of the video on the recorder to clean up the starting and ending points. I don't cutout the middle or sections because that will split the video into 2 mpeg files on the dvd-ram and I don't want that in the computer.
The imported files are already dvd compliant. I import the file(s), create chapters, a menu (usually no motion menu) and either burn the dvd from that screen, create dvd folders or burn and image file.
If you want to make test dvd's and not waste any then use dvd-rw disks. The recorder should read them. My DMR-E60 does. All my panasonic equipment reads DVD+R when I change the booktype of the dvd+r from DVD+R to DVD-ROM. Not all computer writers can do that. The manufacturer might have a utility to run on the disk before you burn it that changes the booktype.
So the best process to use is record to dvd-ram. Import into the computer and write to dvd-rw or dvd-r. If you have a dvd-ram writer you can edit the dvd material and write it back to the dvd-ram using the edit disk module or the -VR module.
If you try and copy the contents of the dvd-ram disk to the harddisk it may not always copy when the file is larger than 2gigs.
Have you downloaded and installed the latest update to MF4? It's necessary to fix some bugs.

On the E drive I have a NEC DV-5700A 1.05 that came with the computer
On the F drive I got a HL-DT-STDVDRAM GSA-4160B A302(Super multi) installed.
It will take a while to soak in the comprhensive information.
Thanks all the same

Thank you middrummer3302.
I was successful in burning a dvd-r from a previously recorded dvd-r.
Now I tried to import 5 programmes from 5 different recorded dvd-ram.
I imported the first disc and then followed successfully with the second one without deleting the icon. When I tried the third one, it froze.
Then I went ahead and deleted all the icons and tried again. No luck.
So tried with the fourth disc after deleting the icon. Lo and Ho success
Any thoughts why the 3rd disc failed.
Out of interest I browsed the 'capture' file. There are some information about the programs I had imported earlier and deleted them including the iso files. Can I safely delete them.

How does one manually insert from the 'capture' folder back to import the video? Thanks
