Problem with DVD Chapter creation in VS9

Post by gordon_fan_24 »

I tried a search for anything, but quite honestly I find the search function on this board to be very sub par, it will find anything, not just the specific topic area(s) that were originally searched. Anyway, on to my question.

I am burning a DVD that is 2 hours long. I put a few seconds of black at the beginning if the video. I went in to create 3 chapter points. And to get rid of my title menu, as I only have one title (main video) and it was a useless level of the menu. I previewed the DVD, in the step before burning, and no matter what chapter I pick, I get a flash frame (only 1-2 frames in length) of black in the middle of the video, like the DVd reverted back to thte first frame of video for a split second, even if I pick the last chapter. I really don't want to have to get rid of the black, is there anything I can do?

Video created from DV-AVI File

MPEG - 4500kbps
Dolby Digital Audio (this is why I'm burning in VS, I usually use MF3, which doesn't support Dolby, and I needed the disk space, so I went with dolby, this means that I do not have alot of experience with DVD burning in VS9)

Hi

I am not sure that this is a problem.

Are you saying that you get a black screen immediately after selecting the chapter thumbnail or does it occur once playback has begun?

I create chapters, navigate to the preview screen, select the main menu to access the chapter screen.
When I select any chapter the screen goes black for a split second before playing.

As a test create a DVD Folder a TS file.
You can then play the dvd using Power Dvd to view the completed movie.

Or burn to Dvd-RW

As for the audio being DD.
I think you can make the Mpeg file in VS then use MF to burn to disc. I do not have MF, others on the forum may help with this.

I would agree with Trevor about creating a TS folder or burning to an RW disk. I have found that sometimes the preview before burn doesn't exactly represent the finished (burned) product.

I will give the DVD RW a try. Just for fun, I re-rendered it using colour bars as my background instead of black, and when the chapter is selected, I get a flash frame of colour bars, so it definatly is flashing back to the beginning, I'll post after the RW is finished later today.

Hi Gordon
I went in to create 3 chapter points. And to get rid of my title menu, as I only have one title (main video) and it was a useless level of the menu.
How did you get rid of the main menu?

When I deselect ‘create menu’ no menu pages are created.
But I still have the option of creating chapters.
Even though I go through the process I cannot select the chapters in the preview playback.
So how are you managing to access the chapter menu’s?????

Although I do believe that once the dvd is made I will be able to jump through the chapters using the remote control, but will not access any menu pages.

I have tried many options to creating the menus but cannot re-produce your symptoms.

to get rid of the main menu I go to "advanced settings" on the menu creation page, and de-select the "Add Title Menu" and I just get the chapter menu

Hi Gordon

Thanks for the info, didn’t realize that that option was under advanced, you learn something every day.

But back to your problem.
To be honest I am fast running out of ideas, I have tried every combination of menu and cannot reproduce your symptoms.
I am now thinking clean install of Video Studio, but first:-
Have you applied the General Updates:
• CD/DVD Burning Pack (Version: 3.6.19 .281, Release Date: 2005/07/27 )
