I am trying to research the same problem with my system. My HP system is not completing the startup of vcapture.exe. This is the sequence of events.
1. Double click on the Video Capture item in the Start/Programs menu.
2. A dialog box appears the has the title "Change Field Order".
This dialog box has a few buttons which are all greyed out. A progress
bar shows 10% and progesses on to 50% and then stops.
Nothing else happens! Not a thing. Vcapture.exe never opens up to displays another thing.
I think if you try to recreate this problem then you may set what we are talking about. Do not connect any DV device and the start Vcapture.exe. You should see the dialog box we are talking about.
Please, any help would be nice.

VIDEO CAPTURE problem, help please!
Do you have any other capture devices installed on your system? It might be trying to load one of them by default, and is getting stuck. Try to start vcapture.exe with any capture devices installed. (I'm thinking of analogue capture devices).
Have you tried plugging in the camera, and selecting 'capture with video capture' from the windows box that pops up when it recognizes your camera. This should load vcapture.exe with the correct plugin from startup.
Hope this might help!

I think the problem is with my analog capture card. It's a ASUS Falcon II and it looks like it was built special for my HP Media Center PC. I removed the capture card and vcapture.exe started but could not capture anything, just play back. I found an updated driver on the HP website but updating the drive did not seem to help.
I have two Sony camcorders, a VX2100 and a HDR-FX1. I can capture SDV from both of them without issue. When I try to capture HDV with the HDR-FX1 is where I have the issues.
My next step is to replace the capture card with one that's more robust. Unless someone has any better anwsers.....
Thanks,

I'm not sure but I think your problem is your operating system, Windows Media Center Edition.
I have HDR-HC1 High Definition Camera and am able to capture through Firewire/iLink to the computer. My OS is Windows XP Pro w/SP2, the service pack is essential to get the camera to work on XP, however MCD handles everything differently.
You should call HP and see if they have a fix for your problem.
