You should set up the camera to DV in the setup menu (down sample).
That will set your camera up as a standard DV camera and you can capture in the standard mode.
Your Capture plugin should be direct show or MPEG for standard video.
If you want to capture in HDV set your camera to HDV and change your capture plugin to HDV.

What cable are you using, USB or Firewire.
I don't know what you mean by the capture won't open up, it stops at 50%.
If you mean Media Studio Pro 8 Video Capture page won't open up? Then your program is not installed properly. If that is the case you should try to re-install the program.
Your posts are not very informative for someone who is looking for help.
You are going to have to post more information on your problem.

I asked you how you were connecting the camera to your computer USB or iLink?
You also need to fill out your system information.
Type of hardware and software etc.
If you can't get the video editor or the capture programs to work you need to contact Ulead Tech support to help you.
I have a HDR-HC1 that works great with Media Studio Pro 8 and Video Studio 9.

Firstly Please update your profile with your system details.
How are you attempting to capture from your camcorder the computer - is it connected by way of an IEEE1394 (firewire / iLink) cable or by some other method?
Is the Hard Drive you are capturing to NTFS or FAT32?
How large is the video you are trying to transfer?
How much free space is there on your hard drive?

CRAP same problem
okay, looks like I have the same problem.
I am hooked up VIA firewire, 1394. I have a Sony HDR-HC1, w\ MSP8 on winXP (200 free GB). When I try to start the video capture program, it brings up a pop-up:
Title: "Change Field Order"
Field Order: "Upper Field First"
Processing --------
It goes to 50%, freezes, and ultimatly crashes. I never even get to the capture program. So I think the first poster is confused, because the capture process never even began, because the program didn't start.
Is this possibly a driver problem? How can I stop the "Change Field Order" pop-up from coming up?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: CRAP same problem
Have you tried doing what the message states? Change the field order in your capture template and try again.davidmpeace wrote:okay, looks like I have the same problem.

Let's start all over again.
1. First your computer must be running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.
2. You have to connect the Camera to the computer with a iLink/firewire cable.
3. To capture video in High Defenition, the camera has to be set to HD not Auto or DV.
4. The first time you plug the camera in to the computer you will get a notification of new hardware found, the driver will install automatically.
It will appear in the Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers as a AVC/Tape device. If the camera doesn't appear in the Device Manager then you will have to solve the problem of your computer not recognizing your camera.
5. Once the computer recognizes the camera then you can start MSP8 Video Capture.
a. Under Setup, Device Control select HDV 1394 Device Control.
b. Under Setup, Capture Plug-in select Ulead HDV Capture Plug-in.
c. Under Setup, you will see Capture Plug-in indicate Ulead HDV Capture Plug-in.
6. Once all the conditions listed above are true you can capture High Definition video.
