Corrupt AVIs crashing Windows Media Player!

Post by Centauri27 »

I captured an hour of digital video from my Sony MiniDV camcorder using VideoStudio 8. I used the "Split by scene" option. The tape appeared to capture properly (and stupid for me--I promptly reused the tape for another event). HOWEVER, only the first 15 AVI clips will play properly! The remaining 47 will either:

- crash Windows Explorer immediately if I even click on the AVI
- crash Windows Media Player if I try to play it

I've scoured the Web and found similar complaints, but no solution has worked. I've tried a variety of AVI repairing programs without success.

Has anyone else encountered this? It's a mystery why clip #15 works fine, but clips #16 onward are all bad...

I am using Windows XP Home, SP2. Video was captured to DV format. Windows Media Player 9.

Thanks for any help.

try to export the clip to mpeg format and then play.
