clip management...

Post by rboucher »

I'm working on making a "highlight" video for my daughter's ice hockey team. We are nearing the end of the year and I'm wanting to cut out the highlights and somehow organize clips by player. Any ideas how I go about this. Thanks all!

Actually this one is going to be fairly easy for you.

I am going to give you directions in VS9, since you did not say what version you were using. I am not sure if it is the same for previous versions, but you can try if you have another version.

In the library to the right, click on the down arrow and select "Library Manager" (also available on the menu under Tools).

This will give you the ability to create additional folders under Video, Image, Audio and Title.

Once you have them created they are listed under that same down arrow.

I would start with all of your clips in one folder, I usually start in the default Video folder. Then drag a clip to the timeline, or story board, and verify where you want it to go. Then open the folder you want it in and drag it from the timeline to that folder. You can also change folders and drag it into another folder if it fits two people.

Once you have placed it I would remove it from the timeline to move to the next. Also you can delete it from the Video folder and it will stay in the specific folders that you copied it into. Here is where you need to be careful if you are working with a previous version. If I remember correctly, when you delete the clip out of the library in VS8 it also gives you the ability to delete the clip too. That would be a bad thing to do, so be careful. You just want to delete the thumbnail not the actual clip.

That will organize the clips for you and then you are ready to go.

I hope that helps.
