I tried to copy a DVD in DVD-R format with a one hour movie on it.
First, I copied it to hard disk, using Windows Explorer.
This created 2 folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The latter had .vob files in it, as expected.
I then used DVD MovieFactory3.5 and Selected Copy/Fit to Disc. I tried DVD+R and DVD-R.
The resulting disk would not play on a DVD player, although it is fine on the PC in Ulead DVD Player. Basically, I have 2 coasters. I guess they are oK as backup, except that I don't need them - I have 4 copies now
I doubt that the disk had copy protection, as the files created om hard disk are quite large.
What do I do to get it to play in a standard DVD player.
I am sure I did this before, using the same process.

It sounds like you created data disks.
In other words the dvd's aren't written as dvd-video dvd's.
They are data dvd's.
Same as using a backup program to backup your files.
Not sure what software your using but to properly transfer the
Video_ts folder to a dvd and create a dvd-video dvd you need to
use the selection
"Burn Dvd Folder"
If you have "Nero" start Nero and select Dvd-Video.
The timeline screen of nero will then have an audio-ts and video-ts folder.
Drag the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder from the harddisk to the
VIDEO_TS folder in the compilation window.
Also if your burning DVD+R use Nero to change the "BookType" to "Dvd-rom" if you can for most compatibility with dvd players.
Not all dvd burners support changing the "BookType".
Using "Nero" that would be "Recorder" -> Choose Recorder -> Options -> Book Type settings.
You can also use Data-Add to do this but it must say burn dvd folder.
Hope this helps,
MD

Copying a DVD
I realise that I have created a backup disc. That is my problem
But why when I used DVD specific software
The software used was Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.5
(I guess that is why posted the question on a Ulead forum
)
I selected Copy/Fit Disc (UleadBurn. Now) Column 2 Row 3 in the menu to copy from hard disk to DVD (twice: once +R, once -R)
I am thinking that the problem may be that I coped the original DVD to hard disk by Windows Explorer.
Would this make a difference?
Should I have copied/should I recopy the original DVD to hard disk using the icon in the bottom row, 3rd icon from the left (Burn from Disk Image) and select DVD as in and Disk Image file as out ?

Whatever the case in MF in order to burn a dvd-video disk from a
VIDEO_TS folder the selection is "Burn Dvd Folder".
Then you navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder and select it.
When you do this you cannot select individual files, only a VIDEO_TS folder.
It might be under the burn image etc. Should be an option in the dropdown box or another selection.
I've been using MF3 and MF4 Disc Creator versions that have that feature.
In MF4 Launcher Screen when you click on Copy/Fit Disc there is a choice saying "Burn Dvd Folder to Disc"
Also using "Burn-Now 2" Selecting "Copy Disk" or "Disk to Disk" copy
when you click on the "Source" Drop down arrow there should be another selection that says "Browse for a DVD Video Folder"
That's the way MF4 works, hope yours is close to that.
Hope this helps,

Copying a DVD - PLEASE HELP
Sorry for the shouting in the Subject line
I am so frustrated.
I have done it once before, why can't I do it again.
I have used Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.5 Suite Deluxe to copy a DVD
This is all I want to do again. It should be so simple.
Re maddrummer's reply
>Whatever the case in MF in order to burn a dvd-video disk from a

The following relates to my attempts to redo the first stage - copy the DVD to hard disk.
There is no option "Burn DVD folder"in Movie Factory 3.5
There is "Burn from Disc Image" - bottom line, 3rd from left - but this does not allow the copying of a DVD to a folder on the PC.
I can select the DVD drive but the program requires me to open a file in the format *.iso *.ixa *.ixb, not a folder
There is "Copy/Fit Disc".
I select
Source: D: drive on which the DVD is loaded
Destination: Disc image file
(The other options are D: and E: which are the DVD drive and a CD drive, so I can't select anything else)
I select Copy and get the message:
Ulead Copy. Now has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
So how can I do the first step?
Previously I just used Windows Explorer, and it seemed to work.
But after this copy, copying these folders (using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.5 Suite Deluxe) to DVD resulted in a DVD that only the Ulead DVD player could display, not a standard DVD player attached to a TV set.
So, how do I achieve the simplest step that anyone could want.
CREATE A COPY OF A DVD (that will play on a standard DVD player)
Surely, it has been done a thousand times. I have even done it.
How, how how ???
