Registry compalint

Post by Redester »

I just installed Media Studio (Twice) and when starting the editor I get a little Video Editor window stating "A registry Error". Clicking on it causes it to disappear and the program loads.

I have used Registry Cleaner Pro to clean it. But still get the little window.

Is this bad and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks

I'd start by checking the error logs in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer/Applications. If nothing else it would give you the executable, module and memory address to report to Ulead.

If I remember correctly, I saw just this a coupla years ago, probably early with MSP7. I uninstalled MSP and deleted every reference to it I could find with Search. I then ran Registrar Lite (freeware), which has an excellent Search function which allows global detecting of keywords in the registry (I probably used MSP and MediaStudio). This came up with nearly 200 "forgotten" references in the registry and I told it to delete the lot (1 minute to do all this!). I then ran Registry Mechanic, which found another half-dozen which I also deleted. I then re-installed and bingo!, no more problems. Total time for all this? <¾ hour.

Just a thought... You did log onto Windows XP as an administrator?
If not then its possible that the installation wishes to alter a registry setting but the Windows XP Security Permissions are preventing it.

I ran the Registry Cleaner Pro before and after the first installation. Also, after the 2nd. 'Still get the warning. I will try once more. 'Not familiar with Registry Mechanic. But will try a D/L of it if this persists.

Thanks,

I found Registry cleaner less efficient than the combination I mentioned. However, I use the full Registry Mechanic, as the freeware version does not allow more than basic corrections. It has the advantage that it can also reduce your registry size by ~10% by removing multiple functions that do the same thing. The registry is a Microsoft bordello that has grewed and grewed, as Alice would say, so there is often much redundancy which just slows things down.

Fresh start. I un-installed all programs and references to Stududio 8. Then ran Reg Clnr Pro (bought Ver.) and defragged the registry, re-booted (just gotta love all the R/B of windoze). Then, ran Enditall.

Now, re-installed Media Studio Pro 8 from the command line using "G\setup.exe." This time it installed the complete suite. :)

All seemed good to go. I created a Movie, exported through Movie factory for a look, exported to DVd-recorder but got no joy there.

After I read the notice about... X'd it, then the Burn icon goes gray. I have tried a couple of DVD-RWs... same thing, RTFM doesn't give a clue. :(

Oh, well, maybe that's the 2nd rung of the learning ladder. And it appears to be a TALLLLLL one,

Tks to all,

Ray

Sorry, can you please give more detailed descriptions of exactly what you did and what happened at each stage, including what your video type/size etc. are. I have not understood your shorthand.
