VS8 - cropping to 4:3 to eliminate flickering at the bottom?

Post by jolobg »

Hi!
Is there a way to crop in Ulead Video Studio 8 the capture from analog camcorder in order to eliminate the flickering on the bottom of the screen? It could be perfect if possible to crop to exact 4:3 format! I've just read some posts it could be done by the crop filter (haven't check it yet, will do that later). What bothers me is the opinion I've read that the flickering (without cropping) dissapears when the clip is viwed on TV! I still get this efect on the TV screen when using the TV out of my videocard!
Could also be the field order - the Video Studio autodetected the field order as "lower field fist" and I didn't change it!

Thanx in advance!

Analog capture in VS is usually "Upper Field First" > Field B.
DV capture in VS is "Lower Field First" > Field A.

Using an ATI analog capture card VS8 detects the wrong field order
when telling the program to autodetect the field order.
The ATI analog capture device is "Upper Field First -> Field B" in VS8
so I have to set it manually if VS changes it.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Sorry, can't help you, but I'm busy for weeks now as well to get rid of that irritating flickering at the bottom of the screen... if anyone knows of any way to get rid of it, that would surely make me very happy!
The funny thing is, when I copy the movie from my analog camcorder to my miniDV camcorder, the flickering is no longer present when playing the movie on the MiniDV camcorders screen. So I thought I had battled the issue. However, after importing the movie from the MiniDV into VS8 afterwards, the flickering is back again in the preveiw screen of VS8. Arghh...
BTW I played around with "lower" and "upper field first" without improving the result.

That's exactly my case - thanx for the tip!

@BrianCee,
Thanx for the useful information on the subject! What I am confused about though is why I SEE THE OVERSCAN ON MY TV - is it because I actually play the clip on my pc and use the tv-out of my ATI based GV-R925128VH card or...?
