Can not replay video
I copy video from Hi8 video camcorder then copy to a cd-r disk in what I think is mpeg format. If I replay with windows media it says format unreadable. I have to send the copy to someone who won't have "Video Studio7" to replay it. What am I doing wrong? Please Help! Urgent! Must send CD. Time is a factor.

Well if you could tell us in some more detail exactly what you are doing, maybe we might be able to work out what you are doing wrong!!
How exactly are you transferring the Hi8 to your computer -- via a digital video camera as pass-through or through an analogue capture device. If the latter, which device? What format is the captured file in, and what are its properties (right click on one of these files in Video Studio and copy down its Properties)? What exactly do you do with it then to get it ready to burn to CD? What format do you choose to burn? What version of Video Studio are you using? And finally, we need to know something about your computer set-up.

I am not using a digital video camera as pass through or an analogue capture device. Are you telling me that I need to convert to dig files first using one of those two ways? Im using supplied cable W/RCA plugs(camera) to USB port (computer) . And I'm using VideoStudio 7, It says it's copying in MPEG but the file ext says VS?Ken Berry wrote:Well if you could tell us in some more detail exactly what you are doing, maybe we might be able to work out what you are doing wrong!!How exactly are you transferring the Hi8 to your computer -- via a digital video camera as pass-through or through an analogue capture device. Yes. I am afraid you need some sort of device between the Hi8 and the computer to convert the Hi8 analog signal to digital format which can then be edited and burned to disc. VS7 may be telling you it is capturing in mpeg format as that is probably the only format it can choose -- unless your graphics card is one of those high end ones which also has an analogue capture capacity. Do you actually see any images on the VS7 preview screen when capturing?
And I am afraid that even if you are seeing images and you do indeed have an mpeg file somewhere, then if you are merely copying the .VSP file to CD, then all you are doing is creating a data CD and archiving your project file on it. The VSP file is not a video file -- it merely notes what video files were used in the project, where they are located on your computer, and what editing was done to them.
If indeed you have managed to capture some sort of mpeg file (if an icon appears in the library pane of VS7 of one of these files, right click on it and copy its Properties), then what you have to do in VS7 is to select Share > Create Video File > and then select either VCD or SVCD if you are burning to CD. Then you close the project, and click Share > Create Disc > VCD/SVCD and insert your new file and burn the disc. That then creates a video format disc, not a data disc, and burns the actual file, not a project file.
And I hate to say it, but you have to read the manual!!!

Thanks Ken, You have been very helpful. I really appreciate the assistance. And your right, I thought this would be straightforward. But I seem to be doing it backward, As they say " If all else fails read the instructions
Thanks Again Christopher

(Im not at the computer). And I just burn to CD with a copying program with no conversion or anything. Thanks Christopher
