Flash issues in VS9, I haven't found a answer
I've read several threads on the problem a lot of people are having with flash files. I called the support phone number and was told by the 'tech' that there have been no other complaints about flash crashing the computer is VS), then low and behold, I have found several complaints in this forum. How about this, my flash feature was working fine. I created several projects with these animations included. Now for some reason, when I try to add an animation to my library, VS9 crashes. Now the ones that are already there will play fine. An error report reply from Microsoft says the problem is with Macromedia flash player, and I'm almost certain that I had an automatic update to occur before this happened. Right now I have uninstalled player 8 and am going to install other versions starting with 6. I tried importing animations with no player installed and the system didn't crash, it just told me there was no video content. I know from this that macromedia has to be the cause for the crashes. Does anyone know which version 9 was compatable with at install. And if anyone can give me more details on the registering flash ocx thing. Please help. If my research brings a result, I will be sure and post it. I really need to add some flash animations to my latest project.

I found one answer
Never thought I 'd reply to my own post, but what I have found is that when I reinstalled player 6 everything worked fine. May try 7 later but for what I need now I'm sticking with 6. To the others, try this and post the results
Flash 6,7,8
Hi Sherryluv1
I have the same problem, my VS9 crashes just by clicking PLAY the preview from the flash thumbnails. Now, I think you may be RIGHT, this never happened with my flashes with my previous Videos, the last video that I used flashes was back in July/Aug the started happening, POSSIBLE right after my son made the update of one of his online games using Macromedia/shockwave/flash and I think is Flash 8; so Flash 7 was fine with my VS9. I'm going to do what you did, until go back to flash7.
I hope some one else comes with other solution, because the U. Tech. Supp. seems to go blind with this.
Have a good day

Same problem here, Flash Animation play attempts result in total crash. I did uninstall Flash Macromedia V8 and installed 7 with the same results. I can't seem to find anything previous to 7 though. Is the Flash player part of the VS9 install?? Not sure, can't remember seeing it being installed. Does anyone have a link to an earlier version than 7?
Cheers,
Max

Ok if you surf the internet and come across some websites that were recently designed, they are probably using Adobe Macromedia Flash 8. If you don't have the current version, you will either be prompted to download and install the current version, or it will just do it. Even though I do flash authoring, I don't like the way Flash Player does this. Version 7 started getting real buggy, and 8 is still real buggy. Don't expect Adobe-Macromedia to fix it soon. AFAIK, they haven't fixed any for quite some time.
Now what I've been able to determine is that with VS9, it uses Flash Player 7.0.14.0. If you navigate to C:>Program Files>Ulead Systems>Ulead.dat>html, you will find the flashplayer that Ulead VS9 installs. The program has to install a stand-alone flashplayer so the SWF files will play on your computer without connecting to the internet or using a web browser. The Flash player that is used while surfing is different then the stand-alone. I currently have Flash Player 8 (a web browser plug-in) that gets used for all the flash content on the internet, however I use Flash Player 7 stand-alone. My authoring program uses the old Player 4 internally, however can export to any.
Also currently the only way to get the Stand-Alone flashplayer 8 is to download either the trial or buy one of the current programs, like Macromedia Flash Professional 8, $699 US... They have not released Version 8 stand-alone AFAIK..
So far I haven't experienced any crashes or problems with Flash content in VS9.

If you don't know what version your web-browser is using, just right click on any Flash advertisement or go to a Flash website and right click. You should see at the bottom of the menu, About Flash Player...whatever version...

Okay, just sounded like you found a flashplayer installation file when I read your previous post. To tell you the truth I can't remember the flash animation working previously and then not now or if it never worked from the beginning. Maybe I'll uninstall and reinstall and see if if comes back seeings I've downloaded and saved the extra files for smart download and they'll be easy to reinstall. If you navigate to C:>Program Files>Ulead Systems>Ulead.dat>html, you will find the flashplayer that Ulead VS9 installs. Wel I just recently had to do an install and I watched the numerous prompts while the program was installing. It does prompt that Flash Player is being installed, sometime towards the end of the the total installation process..
Also I checked the Flashplayer. exe file that is in that HTML folder. Clicking on it plays the Demo. So what that means is that file is a Executable SWF presentation, not what the program would use. The actual flashplayer is apparently embedded in one of the many files, dll's that is installed.
I think that doing a reinstall would be necessary to get the Flashplayer back.
Good Luck
