I have just purchesed a new Sony Vario laptop and have loaded up my MSP 6.5 to go mobile. I loaded a clip in which was captured using Sony DV gate. In film strip mode itis just coloured static on the timeline and when you try and scrub the time line it plays back static in the preview window. However when you hit enter it plays back in the preview window ok. The codec in the preferences is set to Sony DV codec type 2.
Your help will be gratefully excepted.

i had that marvellous software on my vaio desktop, too. Its easy to use, but my version didn't supported full DV resolution and caused only trouble in other programs, therefor i deinstalled it very fast.
Maybe that it just now is more complete, but you should better use your MSP "native" Capture tool and the standard codec to become successful.
In addition MSP6.5 in my knowledge has problems with DV2-Files on the timeline. But if you convert it to DV-1 with the smart convert function, it should work. That i had to do with files captered with studio 7 rsp. studio 8.
