Opening HDTV files locks up my trial version of VS9

Post by Thespian »

I recently downloaded a trial version of VS9 to see if it would work with [PAL] HDTV files. The files have been saved to HDD using a VisionDTV HDTV card and have the mpg extension (incidentlly the same ext as SDTV file from the same source). VS9 (TBYB) will open the SDTV files and allow me to edit them but when I try to open the HDTV files, VS9 locks up and I have to close it down with Task Manager.

Does anyone know if the full version of VS9 will open HDTV files and is my problem just that the trial version can't open them?

Thanks

To be able to use HDV files in VS9 you have to have the plugin. The HDV plugin will not install in the trial version of VS9, however it is free if you purchase the full version, as is MPEG4 plugin.

Thanks for your reply Tyamada,
I'm new to editing so have to ask dumb questions for a while. You mentioned HDV files but does your reply apply equally to HDTV files? If so I will purchase the upgrade today.

Thanks once again,

I have tried HDTV files from my Dvico HDTV capture card that have a file extension of .tp (I think they are program stream HD files). They will not open in any of the Ulead programs.
I use Womble Mpeg and Vcr programs to convert the files to HD mpeg and then I can open them in MSP8 or VS9.

VS9 with the HDV plugin will work with video I capture from my Sony HDR-HC1.

If you are in PAL land Ulead Europe has DVB-T plugin, don't know much about which files it works with. There are several posts on the Video Studio Forum about the DVB-T, do a search to see what information they contain.
