G'Day,
I've used VS6 in the past and it produced quite good results. I'm now trying to use VS8 but have a few problems.
The program installed from the CD without any problems. It also starts fine when I try to run it. Trying to make sure I was running the latest versions I downloaded the 8.01 patch, the DVD burning patch and the time patch. The 8.01 and time patches refuse to install. The installer claims it can't find VS8 installed on my machine. The DVD burning patch went in OK as it is basically a manual file copy to the relevant directory.
I battled on with the base 8.0 software and opened a project that I had previously made with V6, long since uninstalled but I still had the project files. It opened fine and everything seemed to be working. I went to burn a DVD but it says that it cannot find a DVD burner. I ended up creating the DVD files and burning them with Nero which worked fine. I have a NEC 3500 DVD burner which is on the supported drive list so I don't know why VS8 claims it can't find the drive when all other software can.
So in a nutshell I can't install the updates because it says VS8 isn't installed and I can't burn DVDs because it says there is no burner installed. Does anybody have any idea how to fix these problems???
In case it is relevant, my system is a 2.4GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM and about 100GB of free disk space so I'm sure it is up to the task.
A couple of problems with a new VS8 install
