ease in, ease out video filter effect
ease in, ease out video filter effect
I'm trying to re-create a video filter effect from WMM in Media Studio Pro 8 (ease in, ease out) and I'm not sure if it's possible or if there are any plugins you can download that will create this effect? maybe it's already here under a new name??? I have no idea, but I'd appreciate any and all help.

OTOH if you mean fading something in and out that would be accomplished with that clips Overlay Options.
Procedure: create two new keyframes; one about 1/2 second after the first (default) keyframe and one about 1/2 second before the last (default) keyframe.
Set the first and last keyframes to 100% transparancy and the middle two to 0%.
Poof.

When you insert the key frames, is there a way to set their locations other than sliding them on the timeline. I would like to be able to type in the frame location I want them, but I can not seem to find that as an option.
Thanks

Two ways:
1. zoom in on the Effect Managers timeline and you'll eventually get down to single frame resolution, complete with timecode at the top in 5 frame increments. Just click on the timecode where you want a keyframe then click the + button to add one.
IF you find that the EM's dialog is too small for you doubleclick its title bar and it'll un-dock and float. Now you can size it as large as you want to get in enough frames. Move the divider bars around a bit and you can give the timeline even more space. Doubleclick the EM's title bar again and it'll re-dock. This size setting will be preserved until MSP shuts down.
IF you find a series of un-docked window settings you like, you can always save them as custom layouts in the Layout Manager.
I have a "big EM" layout saved in this manner, complete with a hotkey so I can call it up from the keyboard. All the MSP8 windows can be managed in this manner, so a giant preview window, mixer panel, production library etc. are just a hotkey away.
2. When the clip is selected the main Preview Windows slider moves to the first frame in that clip.
By clicking on the appropriate boxes in the Preview Windows HH:MM:SS;FF display (left side scale) and advancing them with the up/down arrows you can also can move the Effect Managers slider to the same location.
Example: changing just the xx:xx:SS;xx box one notch you go up/down 30 frames, or one second. Changing the xx:xx:xx;FF box 15 frames you go up/down 1/2 second and so on.
Once you're at the desired frame you can place a new keyframe with frame accuracy in the Effects Manager.

As a small addendum to Terry's contribution, which assumes MSP8, you can do most of the same in MSP7 by clicking on the Options of the effect you are using and using the slider/frame arrows on the left and, when you have found where you wish to add a keyframe, click on the small icon with the + symbol above the slider. This works also in MSP8, but the Effects Manager is MUCH easier to use.

ease in ease out
if you mean fade in black and fade out black
you can do this with a video filter called "Fade to black" in MSP7/8.
If you want to fade in/out white, you can use a white colour clip with
fade (FX filter).
