"Failed to build a capture graph"

Whenever I try to capture (from my Canon GL2, capture format: DV), I get these:

and it won't capture. :( I just got MediaStudio Pro 8, so I don't know what this means. Any help is appreciated!

:? Nobody?

I guess this is due to people not knowing what to guess first. You have not given us anything to work on, except that you use MSP8.

It would certainly make it a lot easier if you were to state at least the basics. In your profile, there is a section where you can insert your system specific data. Not that it would be of much help in this particular case but it would be a start.

Now, back to your problem. How do you connect your camera? Which capture device did you select? Did you select a device control?

I don't know much about MSP8, never used it, although I have downloaded the trial. I'm also not at my video machine right now and have to try to picture the capture module, as I know it (MSP7), from memory.

On the menu bar, there should be items for Set Up and for Capture. Can you give us the details on what is selected there? Maybe a screen shot or a listing you can type here? I'm sure your problem stems from the settings there or your connection. Do you use a firewire cable?

I'm afraid, without giving any details, you could wait a long time for any response. I too ignored your post initially for that reason but in the end felt sorry for you (no offence intended).

Rest assured, this is very likely an easy one but we need to know what you did so far.

The error your getting is typical of an improperly installed Capture device or no device at all.

What are you using to connect your camera to the computer?

I'm having the same issues: I have tried a mates version of Adobe Premier and can capture video at the same time it is previewed in the window on screen. I can captue via Vegas Video 3.0 no problem, and through the lE version of Motion studio DV.. heck even MS's bog standard movi maker captures... but if I use MPS8 I get the same error messages when loading the capture screen.

In DVD workshop 2 I can get a preview screen the first time it launches and it shows my footage coming in.. but click on record and the screen blanks and the preview never returns. So the issue would appear to be uslated to ulead products

Ive tried re-installing both applications, updared both drivers for my ATI Radeon card and have the latets vesrion of directX - still the same messages. I've even tried two camera just in case it was the firmware but the same issues resides...

The knowledge base on the FAQ's on Uleads site don't help either....

The system originally worked some months ago (around October 2005)... but this is the first time I've used it since...

I have seen this error before and it means that the software cannot "see" your camcorder usualy a driver problem.

One possible cure is to exit the program and turn OFF the camcorder.
Start your capture program (Media Studio Pro / Video Studio etc)
go to the capture module, turn ON the camcorder and a message SHOULD pop up along the lines of "New device selected do you weant to use it."

This sometimes works, not always.

I'm wondering if there's a mix up in the MSP8 installation somewhere?

Before you reinstall MSP 8.0

Delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0

As I answered here & it worked :)

Which capture plugin are you using? You can find this in the Settings menu and or Capture menu. Can't be more specific because I do not have MSP8.

I have had such messages in the past with MSP 7 when the wrong capture plugin was selected. For DV capture to AVI, I use the ULEAD DirectShow and for the device control I use the Microsoft device. Works fine.

this is a problem with MICROSOFT DIRECTX

Update drivers and directx or change your video card
