DVD Workshop 2 solely or also use Video Studio 8?

Post by bbrown »

I have just purchased the VideoStudio 8 product and the DVD Workshop 2 full version with the upgrade option from VS8. Now that I own both products I desire to create a presentation for presenting a new technology whch will include both video, images and narration.

I'm wondering if there is any benefit to using any of the features of VideoStudio 8 in the project, or, are the features of VideoStudio8 included in those of DVD Workshop2?

Anyone have a link to when you would use each product as opposed to the other?

Thanks,

Bruce

The products do "overlap" a bit...

Video Studio is for EDITING. This is cutting & splicing, fancy-transitions between scenes, special effects, adding background music, naration, titles... all the stuff the director does to put the movie together the "film" is shot.

If you want to make your own movies, you could get by with Video Studio only. In this case, actual movie itself is probably more important than any DVD "features"

DVD Workshop is for DVD AUTHORING. This is done after the movie is completely made... putting menus on the DVD (with optional background audio/video), adding multiple-language soundtracks, subtitles, etc. DVD Authoring software will also convert the files into the proper DVD file-format, and burn the DVD.

If you want to copy VHS to DVD without any "fancy" editing, DVD Workshop will do that (without Video Studio) and it will allow you to make some nice menus.
