The disc is not empty or there is no disc in the drive

Post by hchernick »

I am using MovieFactory ver 2.12.2144.0100 SE

Several weeks ago I created my first DVD without a problem. After spending many hours of gathering new clips for my next DVD, I came across the following problem. When I chose to Record to Disc, the program would do everything as it is suppose to and then come up with a message that says: The disc is not empty or there is no disc in the drive.

I tried 5 new DVD's and came up with the same message. I updated the firmware for my DVD player. I installed the MovieFactory patches. Still the same message.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

You might want to check the compatibilty of your media with your burner. This was previously cited in another thread on this forum. You could just try a different brand of media.
Do you have any other burning or video editing software installed on your machine?
Did you install or uninstall anything between the first and second attempt?
Have you had success in the past beyond that first DVD that you mentioned? Was it the same brand of blank media?
Did you also install the burning engine update?

I've been getting that same message, and I think it started after I updated the Burning Engine and 8x writing update. I think it is a compatibility issue with other software on your machine - in my case, it's Nero. My work-around is to do this:
- when the message pops up (use a +RW or -RW disk rather than a +R or -R).
- I start up Nero Express and select the "Erase a disc" option.
- Once it has been erased, click OK or RETRY in DMF.

Let me know if this works for you.
