Multi-trimming, but can't save, 3.x se

Hi, I'm trying to multi trim. When I am finished and close, it will ask me save changes to file, answer yes. the problem is that all the clips are marked but not seperated so I can join them. I know I'm probably missing something simple, wouldn't be a first.
