Load from Stream Error

Post by WillBoss »

I was fooling around with Video Studio 9 demo and had some footage from my DV cam scanned in using the 'Quick Scan' feature. All the thumbnails were there but for some reason my PC crashed and I had to reboot the machine.

Now when I run Video Studio 9 I get lettle empty boxes appear with no Thumbnail images in them. Every one that tries to load into the panel on the right I get a dialog box pop up saying ' Load from Stream Error'. I cant right click on the empty image as the dialog box appears again.

Does anyone know how I can remove those empty boxes as the product has been rendered useless because of them?

Cheers
Will

Hi Will,

that's interesting - I posted a reply to a VS6 user suffering from a similar problem. In his case, I think he'd deleted the files which caused the error message.

You say you "scanned" the clips in with the Quick Scan feature.

Does this mean you captured files, either in MPEG-2 or AVI format? Where did you then save the files to?

The error message seems to indicate that VS can't find the files. If you inadvertently deleted them or moved them, you might try restoring them to their original sub folders. If that is not possible, you can try unchecking "allow relink checking" in your "preferences" settings.

If that fails, the nuclear option would be to uninstall the VS9 trial and then reload it.

Good luck!

I deleted the files also but it didnt resolve the problem.

I captured them in AVI format and saved them to the default Ulead folder in My Documents folder.

I cant use the relink feature as when I right click on any of the blank previews I get the pop up error dialog box. After posting the above message I uninstalled the entire application and reinstalled it again. I was amazed to see that the problem was still there. I am at a loss. :?

I think you will find that the problem is due to a corrupted Ulead data file on your hard disk - the problem was not cured by an un-install and re-install because not all Ulead files are removed from your computer when you un-install and the re-install sees that the files are already there and does not overwrite them.

OK - the following are three different suggestions which have been made in the past - these are not my original words but I copied and saved them in the past as answers from others to your problem. They all refer to previous versions I'm afraid so you may find that some of the information is not 100% correct for V9 but the basics should hold good :-

How to Get Rid of Load From Stream Error Without Losing Your Library
.
If you don’t want to lose all your custom directories or the pointers to all your video, image, audio, and titles, do the following: (Note: The file system path is valid for Windows XP Home. If you have another operating system, the file system path may be different.)

1. Save the contents of the following directory in a Temporary directory: “C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0” Then Delete that 8.0 Folder
2. Delete the “C:\Documents and Settings\ALL USERS\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0” folder.
3. Uninstall Video Studio 8.
4. Install Video Studio 8.
5. Restore your custom Library directories and pointers to your clips as follows: Copy the following files from your saved directory “8.0”:
VS_Video.dat,
VS_Title.dat,
VS_Image.dat, and
VS_Audio.dat
and paste them into
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0.

IMHO, the way to prevent this problem in the future is to turn off Write Caching (when editing with Video Studio) as follows: Control Panel/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager/{double click on a disk drive to open Properties window}/Policies tab/{uncheck “Enable Write caching on the disk”

Or maybe this – works for some

Have you tried this:
1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 8 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.

2) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Delete the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 8.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system

4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

5) Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

6) Then reinstall it and any patches.

Another ‘Load from Stream Error’ Cure

1. I uninstalled all versions of VS on my system (I had VS 8...so VS 9 required VS 8 to install the upgrade).

2. I went to the Documents and Settings and under my user profile I went to the Application Data folder (ensure you can view all files, because this one is normally hidden) and went to the Ukead Systems folder and deleted the .ini file there and the Video Studio folder(s)

3. Then again back in the Documents and Settings folder under the All Users folder and did the same as step #2.

4. Then in the Program Files folder there is a folder called Installshield Installation Information in this folder you will see several long folder names...open each one and look for a Setup.INI file and open each one...under the APP NAME= look for the one that is Video Studio...and delete that folder ONLY!

5. Then again in the Program Files directory go to the Ulead Systems folder and delete any folder that is Video Studio.

6. Now the daunting part...go to Reg Edit (Start, Run...type Regedit). Under HKEY_CurrentUser, and HKEY_LocalMachine and locate the Software folder...under this folder locate the Ulead Systems and delete any reference to Video Studio in both locations (remember, back up your registry before making changes!)

7. Now re-install, and that should be it.

OR - you could use the FORUM 'Search' facility (in the little blue text under where it says Ulead User to User Web board) and put 'stream error' as your criteria you should find some posts explaining how to delete the rogue files

Cheers Brian

The second option did the trick. I am going to keep your solution on file in case it happens again. I was actually in the process of looking at other software. I like V9 so I may invest.

Thanks again for your help much appreciated.
