VS8 newbie- defaults for video create

Hello all, can someone give me info on making just am mpeg file for the internet? I assume I don't bother with the template box.
Also I notice that when I change any values in options ( e.g. frame / audio rates) it doesn't go back to any default when re-opening the program so now I'm not sure what the basic start values are.
Any help is appreciated-thanks
