AUDIO/ VIDEO OUT OF SYNCH
This is a common problem which seems to have several different causes & solutions. Search the forum for "sync" and you'll find lots of discussion and suggestions.
What video format are you using? Are you editing MPEGs? If you're editing MPEGs (which are not meant to be edited) take a look at one of my posts on the topic.
When does the sync problem show up? After capture? After editing? After rendering/burning?
Defragging isn't going to help unless you are getting errors during analog capture. Once the video is in digital format on your hard drive, everything else is just digital "number crunching" and computer speed/performance won't cause file corruption or errors.

I dont know how useful this will be, but i used to capture analogue through an external USB capture box, which worked fine most times, but now and then captures from VHS were out of sunc. I changed and now plug the VHS (or 8mm depending on the job) into my Panasonic GS400 video camera and send the signal to the computer using DV. The video camera simply transfers the signal to the DV cable and since i have changed my method, there are no more sync problems.
