A noob with problems...why does this take so long...

Hello all,
I just recently got workshop and was burning my first dvd today when I noticed that it took forever. The dvd had about 40 minutes of footage (avi videos) and menus and it is taking forever to burn. Right now it has been going for over 50 minutes and it is only at 6%, is there something wrong here or is it me. It still says that it is converting the files. I don't think it has actually started to burn anything. Should it take like 10 or more hours to burn 1 dvd? My system is a p4 3.2 ghz with 1gb of ram. The total size of the dVd (as estimated in workshop) is 2.8gb and I am burning on a dVd-rw disc. Thanks for all you input.

When you read the "Read this before posting..." thread AND act on it, then we may have sufficient info to reply. We need to know EVERYTHING relevant so offer it now, because we don't have time to extract it from you item by item.

Hi

I never let any aouthoring program to encode my files but import
only comliant ones.
Since you state that you are using AVI files DWS has to encode them
to MPEG-2 which takes ages.

Thank you kind soul for your suggestion to put the media into a compliant form before bringing it into dws. I ended up doing that and it was much faster. Wow devil did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? Sorry if my question offended you. Next time I will simply wallow in frustration instead of asking a question.
