Recent upgrade to VS9, been a VS user since version VS5

Post by JimK »

I am very familier with the upgrade process having done it so many times but my latest has causes me great fustrations since it didn`t update like it
suppose to. I purchased the download update like I have for years and it went without any issues at all. My problem came when I wanted to use smart update to install the rest of the programs that come with it. Updates 1 to 4 content packs along with all the other goodies.

Well my problem came after trying to install content packs 1 & 2, they did not install at all but all the other exe. programs installed without to many issues. Only one that that really had problems was the smartsound having many sound files that are corrupted and 2 out of all them installed. My VS8 never had these kind of issues upon updating from VS7.

Having the exe. for both 1&2 still in my smart download folder I figured if I deleted them I could redownload them. Big Mistake. Smart Download has decided I already have them and won`t allow another DL of the corrupted Content packs 1 & 2.

Any ideas as to how I can finish updating VS9 with this problem. I have emailed support 2 days ago without any reply. And I have DLed the update patches and installed the them into VS9.

Plus today when I tried making some new videos I have a problem with VS9 crashing my computer 3 times with the famous ntdll error.

I have been making aircraft simulation videos since 98 and really have been thinking maybe I should have upgraded to MediaStudio Pro 8 instead.
Then again probably have the same problems

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,

Stay away from Smart Download is the lesson :-)

Use this link (2nd post) to directly download the various packages

You may or may not have to do an uninstall of your VS9 as well - goodluck

Thanks Peter,

Well this really sucks. Maybe moving on to say Vegas will help me me more.
Not saying you did nothing to help, you surely did but from what I read is
not much help if all these people have problems with it. Support emails get
me nowhere and the dl speeds off this link could take all night.

Yeah, ULead seem to go out of their way sometimes to antagonise customers.

Perhaps you might be interested in this:

PowerDirector 5 comes out looking pretty good against VS9. I haven't tried it myself as yet, but I have downloaded a trial version. VS 8/9 has been pretty good to me, but ULeads recent move to using Internet authentication of their products has made me start to think of looking towards alternatives. I don't like that kind of thing.

Best of luck with your downloads - perhaps use a download tool such as flashgot to make sure you get everything down with a minimum of fuss?

Hmmmm, Power Director looks interesting. But having used Ulead VS for so
many years I feel my turn around time could be be quite long on the learning
curve since I am already programed to use VS. But I see its time to make
some changes for the better since VS is neglecting its cistomer support.

Many thanks for your help Peter.

Thanks for the comments below about PowerDirector. I have been a loyal ULEAD customer for many, many years. But I can't deal with a company that ignores customers. I upgraded VS7 to VS9 on December 2 and the upgrade didn't work and installing it caused VS7 to stop working too.

I am really amazed by this company. I have sent in multiple emails and posts asking for help and I only received one reply...and the reply was useless. I hate to say it, but I think ULEAD should change their name to USUCK. Take a look at the number of posts out here from people that have problems but get no response from customer support. It doesn't matter how good the product is if you don't treat your customers right you will soon find that your customers are gone. Guess what ULEAD...you lost another one!

See ya!!!

I have read the reviews in your link, that rate PowerDiredctor as the best, several times. Most other reviews of editing software do not even mention it in their reviews. Also, they do not have a user forum, which I find strange. I find this forum very useful!. I think I will download the trial version though.

This "review" and line-up of "rated" programs made me uneasy. It looks more like advertising than science. You'll find a similar "line-up" of anti-spam products and anti-adware products. Always one is "gold" or "platinum" and that's the one you're supposed to buy.

Who SAYS one product is better than the others? What if certain other features were listed? Wouldn't that skew the "order" and make it look quite different?
