Audio Scrubbing

Post by Superman »

Nature of the problem: When I scrub forward and backwards the audio will play at normal speed but jump around to catch up with the video. In other programs (Vegas, Premiere) the audio will speed up and change pitch or even play backwards when scrubbing through a clip. Does this change in the full version/future versions?

Properties of your source files : This seems to hapen with all audio/video (WMV, mp3, WAV)

Project Settings : any

Output format: DVD

NTSC

System: I've tried this on 2 seperate machines with 1 Ghz - 1.8 Ghz, 256 - 5120 RAM, sperate hard drives. They have been great with the software so far and other trial versions.

Is this a problem? Just another way of achieving the same end. In fact, I prefer this method, especially when backwards scrubbing at a frame level, because it is easier to identify a sound. There is no need for any one software to slavishly copy the way others behave.

It's not a big problem. It would just be nice to switch it as an option. I did have to synchronize 2 clips once based on a certain sound in the background at a wedding and this feature came in handy. Maybe it would have worked with Ulead's scrubbing style but my trial ran out :-)

Thank you.

When synching two audio tracks, there is a much simpler and more accurate method than trying to listen while scrubbing, no matter how the audio is implemented. You switch the audio tracks into waveform mode and you can see the exact point that a particular sound occurs. You can then slide one of the audio tracks on the timeline until it is coincident with the other. Alternatively, you can apply track cues in AE.

Many ways of skinning cats!

Poor cats! :)
Sometimes audio is not correlated to video at all while srcubbing. I had the effect that I scrubbed over one clip and heard the sound of a different clip. I opened the clip in source window and played it - the wrong sound was not there ( :) ) I changed timeline mode to show waveform - also ok.
Seems that sound comes (sometimes) from a pre - rendering and msp had "forgotten" that clips had been moved in the timeline in between.
