Field Order A/B vs. Upeer/Lower

Post by David Mears »

I discovered a while back (thru this board - thanks!) that I needed to specify Field Order B when capturing a TV signal from antenna or video input (to avoid jumpiness in the resulting edited video played back to the TV from the created DVD). Now, I've upgraded my VideoStudio V6 to version 9.0 and instead of talking about Field Order A or B, it talks about Upper Field or Lower Field first.

Can someone verify which of these new terms corresponds to Field Order B so I can make sure I generate edited video as I need it to avoid the jumpiness problems.

Thanks!

David,

Ulead appears to have re-defined their field order different than version 6.
In Version 6 I think it was field A or field B.

For VS8 or VS9 use this:
Upper Field First = Field B (Usually analog capture cards, ATI etc).
Lower Field First = Field A (DV camcorders, firewire etc).

So when capturing from the ATI analog capture card my settings
are "Upper Field First".

If I'm capturing from my Canon DV Camcorder (DV via firewire) I capture "Lower Field First"

Also, if I let VS or MF auto-select the field it usually selects the wrong field. I have to manually set that when capturing analog to "Upper Field First".

Hope this helps,

MD
