Jumpy Video when Creating Video

Post by pjhorton21 »

Been using MSP7 for 18 months; worked great until my C drive crashed. Purchased new hard drive, re-installed windows XP and MSP7 and resumed my work - but now, when I create a video file, the video is "choppy" (skips frames). This happens when exporting to AVI or MPG. I can also see lines on the screen (every other line seems to be offset). I have spent a few weeks trying to fix the problem (with the help of the Mug-SW group), and have made a number of changes to the settings, all of which didn't solve the problem.

Questions:
What is causing the choppy video and line problem I am experiencing?
Is there a way of resetting all the preferences to the default settings?
Should I just re-install the program and hope for the best?

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Another person who has not acted on the "Please read before posting..." thread.

Sounds like you may have inverted the field order. As I have no clue as to the format etc. of your video, or your settings, I cannot help beyond this.

Does your problem arise with every (also new) video or does it happen when you render some video clips which have survived the crash?
Note: even if your video was on a different disk as your system crashed, it might have been damaged during the crash, because windows is likely do not behave good during disk crashes.

When you create the video, go inot Options, then set Field Order A.
If you get the same problem, try Field Order B.

I know AVI has always given me the same problem with choppy and artifacts. MPEG, WMV or MOV formats have worked really well for me.

Besides, AVI as a final output is probably not what you want to do due to its huge size.

Play around with the options/frame rate etc.

Hope this helps
