Cannot Start the Capture Graph Error

Post by jwulff@pointb.com »

Hi. I am hoping someone can help me. I am suddenly getting a Cannot Start the Capture Graph Error in Ulead 7.00.1000 when I click the capture button. I am using this with my Sony MicroMV camera and have had consistent success doing this up until this evening. There are three possible changes to my system I can think of:

1 - I changed the default location for capturing new video
2 - I deleted all the old thumbnails in the video pane
3 - I recently installed the Sony Movie Shaker software and tried a capture with it (it stunk!).

I could not find any mention of this in the ULead Support KB and Google didn't turn up anything either. Can someone help me? Thanks!!!

Can we assume you checked to make sure you have the MV Capture Plug-in selected??

Yes - I do have the MMV plug in installed and selected

Hi Ken,
Yes, I do have it selected. As it turns out, I ended up doing 2 cold boots and..for some unexplained reason...the second one did the trick and it started capturing video again. Oddly, however, now I am getting really jerky video and audio and I am not sure why. I am concerned that installing that MovieShaker junk might have screwed up my codecs...

I suspect you may be right. I have only just recently acquired a Sony digital handycam which came with proprietary Sony software. But I have read so many nasty stories about it, from 'just useless', to strange frame formats, to really inimical to other video editing software, that I have never installed it. And my Sony works just fine with VS9 (though I imagine it would with 7 as well).

Mind you, Sony has a lot to answer for in introducing the MicroMV proprietary range in the first place, but I guess you don't need to hear that, eh?

The curious thing is that Sony -- well at least the Sony label -- produces some great video editing software in Vegas Video 6 when they took over Sonic. It has a cutdown version, which is called something like Vegas Movie Studio. VV6 is a high end program, but the cutdown version is more equivalent to VS9 (though I think does more video and audio tracks). And it is definitely getting some good reviews. The full cost is around US$89.95, so it is even a bit cheaper than VS9. Steeper learning curve, though...

Thanks Ken...yes, I agree that MicroMV was not well rolled out or supported. I am feeling very abandoned by Sony on this. Last Sony product I ever buy frankly. That said, shame on me for buying the latest greatest...should have known better after watching my Dad get hosed with his Betamax! :-)

Thanks for your help. I uninstalled MovieShaker and I am going to try and recover the codec to see if I can get this all back to normal. Ugh.
