MP3 Audio ok on desktop not ok on laptop VS9

Post by Eric VS9 »

Hi
I have VS9 installed on my desktop computer and laptop
(with the same patches and updayes)

Ihave just about finished a slide show project with many mp3 audio files
It plays great on my desktop and burn fine onto DVD.

The problem is I copied all the file from the desktop to my new laptop
to take home and finalize the project and the same MP3 audio files
will not play if i delete them from the time line the project will play
if i try to reinsert to the project I get a error message unable to play file
Error in initialization

the desk top and laptop have the same versions and updates installed
the only difference seems to be the laptop the project is fine on that desktop
???

It could be that your laptop does not have the specific MP3 codec which was used to produce the audio tracks on your desktop. For instance, Nero uses the LameMP3 codec (as do other programs), I believe, so if you don't have Nero on your laptop or any other program which uses the Lame codec, then if your original audio was produced using that codec, they may not play back on the laptop. Otherwise, there have been a number of people posting on this Board who simply appear to have problems with MP3 audio - period. Whether this is because of their computer's specific make-up and/or the codec issue, is still open to debate (and there are some who of course spring to the defence of whatever codec since it happens to work on _their_ computer). But converting the offending MP3s to WAV format usually resolves the issue. The problem of course is that WAV produces much larger files...

Ok I am not sure what it all means but it worked !!
I searched for CODEC info and found this site

http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html

installed the software (FREE) it found this

(cant seem to paste the Screen Shot here ??)

It said Broken Codec
MPEG Layer- 3 Decoder (c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ I3codecx.ax)

I then copied the missing file from my desktop computer to the same
directory on the laptop and Bingo !!!!!!

Just like the song or movie Its a wonder full world
