VideoStudio 7.0 starting question

Post by kjk »

Hi

This might seem pretty basic but I cannot seem to get a signal from my VCR to my Dell laptop (Inspiron 600M) computer. I have VideoStudio 7 installed, all the drivers and cables linked up. I know the VCR machine works, the tape is good...

How do I know if I have a compatible "Video Capure Card"
(in Device mgr. it says that the "Legacy Video Capture Device", under
Sound, Video and Game cotrollers) is working properly.

Shoud it be an Analog capture card?

O/S is Windows XP Home

Thanks, Ken

Yes, to capture from your VCR you will need an analog capture device.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

What would that be? A new video card, or?

I thought the USB Video Grabber would in itself perform the task...

Since you never mentioned the Video Grabber, and we are not mind readers ...! Yes, that takes the place of the capture card. I don't know what its quality is like, though.

YOops. Yes, it is called the "High Speed, USB video grabber". It comes with the Ulead 7.0 software. The device is recognized by Windows, the Ulead software is installed but when a tape is playing, the software says it doesnt detect a signal. ?????????????

What tapes are you trying to capture? If it is a commercial tape it may have some copy protection on it such as macrovision. I am not familar with the device you are using however and whether it would matter or not.

Exactly how is the VCR connected to the device? Via the yellow, red and white composite cables? S-video instead of the yellow cable? Scart to composite?
