Playback never the same? What's Changing?

Post by Hennessy »

I’ve just rendered my video and played it back in Windows Media Player. I am very happy with the quality and sound, but every now and then it gets choppy (jerky). The strange thing is, I can rewind a little, play again and the second time it will be ok (the exact same section that was jerky), then later, it gets jerky again.

I have no other applications running in the background, so I am really confused about this inconsistency.

Should I just go ahead and burn the DVD or is that pointless if the playback is jerky?

Thanks

Why don't you try a burn but use a DVD-RW for a test. Then you can erase and use the DVd again.

Thank you but I have read those pages many times. I’m not sure how it can be the settings, if sometimes the video plays smoothly – and at other times the exact same video is choppy. I guess I will read them again!

Actually, if you are viewing the video clip in another program (other than Uleads) and are able to see the same section of the video clean just by rewinding and playing, I would say that your video clip is fine and you are having issues with your system. I only say that because if there was a problem with the clip it would be choppy at that point every time, no matter how many times you rewind it. The suggestion to burn to a RW disc is a good one. It will give you another source to test against without wasting a disc. Another option, that I use for all my projects is to create the DVD folders on your hard drive and use your DVD software to play it. That even saves the RW burn (especially if you don't have any of those handy) and gives you another program to test in. It is not as independant as the RW suggestion, since you can't run it on a separate player, but it does give you a decent test, and you can take the folders and burn them directly on a disc if it turns out good.
